Our kitchen renovation was such a fun project! Since we made our living space all open concept, our kitchen became a focal point. Accordingly, a lot of work went into this little space and we love how it turned out!

What we did

  • New paint, flooring and trim
  • Removed walls between kitchen/dining room/living room to get open concept
  • Sanded down window frame and painted white
  • Extended wall to block view of fridge from entry
  • Added pot lights to ceiling
  • Had ceiling re-textured (to get cohesive look after removing walls)
  • Painted existing cabinets
  • Added trim/crown molding on bulkhead over upper cabinets
  • Painted cabinet hinges black
  • New hardware
  • New backsplash
  • New counter tops
  • New faucet
  • New appliances
  • Added an island
  • Added pendant lights over island
  • Removed the valance over the kitchen sink

One of my favorite details we added to this kitchen was the trim work. There was a bulkhead over the cabinets so we were trying to decide if we should keep it or open it up. We ended up keeping it to avoid the extra work of  dealing with what might be behind it. So to disguise it, we added crown molding to the top, a baseboard along the bottom and a really thin piece of edging on the underside to hide the bottom of the baseboard and ledge of the bulkhead. I LOVE how it adds so much character to the kitchen!
