Basement Stairway

This area was one of the last projects we tackled in the house. We were so burnt out after renovating the rest of the house, we left the basement stairs to be done whenever we felt up for a project. Turned out that took 3 years. This space is our back entry and stairs to our basement. Since it’s always visible from our kitchen I wanted to make it feel like a continuation of the space.

before

It’s not that this was a hard project, it was just time consuming to make all the nosing pieces for each step, but totally worth it! I’ve got a blog post on how we made them here

Everything else from there was easy. Once the flooring was installed, we painted, added the trim and that was really it. Then just added some décor and done!

after

Since there isn’t a closet back here, we had to make the space functional as well. We added hooks on the wall and a basket on the floor for sandals in the summer. We’d had the towel to wipe Winston’s feet hanging on the hand rail for 3 years, and let me tell you, it felt great to finally hang the towel on a real hook!

What we did

  • replaced the flooring
  • added new trim
  • painted the walls
