Hello and welcome to House & Crown! I guess I’ll start off by telling you all a little bit about why I started this blog, what inspired me, and how I came up with the name House & Crown.
Why I started House & Crown
I started this blog simply as a hobby and creative outlet! I’m the kind of person who always needs a project or I get bored. A little backstory: After high school I went straight to university for 5 years. Then my husband and I got engaged and bought our first house during my last year of school. I was so excited to renovate the house and just make it ours! We had a little bit of money to go towards the renovations, and let me tell you, we stretched our money as far as we possible could! We are so fortunate to have amazing family and friends who helped us with everything! I don’t think there is a single project we tackled alone. Anyways, while we were renovating I was planning our wedding. Right after our wedding (three days actually) we brought home our fur baby. So once all those years of back-to-back craziness were over, I was bored! My next mission for the house was to get it decorated and organized and just make it feel like home!

What inspired me
As I was looking online for some inspiration, I found a bunch of Instagram accounts and bloggers who were tackling their own home decor/renovation projects. I thought that it would be worth sharing the renovations we did since most of it was done ourselves and on a very tight budget! Then, maybe it would inspire others to make their homes something they’re proud of too, whether it’s a first home, forever home, rental, or anything in between! I also figured that blogging my own journey, at the very least, might help push me creatively. So, on the blog I’ll be sharing as much of the renovations we did as possible, future renovations and DIY’s, decor and organization inspiration, recipes, and any other products or things that I love!
How I came up with the name House & Crown
The word ‘house’ was easy, I knew I wanted either ‘house’ or ‘home’ to be in the name so people would know it was a home blog right away. The word ‘crown’ took me a little longer to find. Since I live in the mountains I wanted something to do with that. I stumbled upon ‘crown’ when I searched the word ‘mountain’ in the thesaurus. ‘Crown’ was listed under the description of a mountain’s peak and I knew it was the word I was looking for. Not only does it represent the area that we currently live, which is important since this is our first home, but it also happens to represent another area that we hope to live in one day!
Thus, House & Crown was born!
